The U.S. Impact Investing Alliance submitted comments earlier this week in support of mandated climate and ESG disclosures by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The Alliance was responding to a March request for public input by Commissioner Allison Herren Lee that is expected to set the stage for future rulemakings.
“The SEC must move to mandate clear, comparable and meaningful ESG disclosures for public and large private companies,” said Fran Seegull, President of the U.S. Impact Investing Alliance. “Private sector standard setters have led the way to date, but it’s time regulators take the next foundational step toward impact transparency.”
In its comments, the Alliance emphasized the need and demand by investors for comprehensive ESG disclosure requirements around factors such as greenhouse gas emissions, labor and workforce metrics, racial inclusion and equity practices and other issues.
